California

As veterans and residents of Southern California it is our duty to protect our lands. Vet Voice Foundation is committed to mobilizing and organizing veterans to engage in the following:

  • VVF is part of the San Gabriel Mountains Forever campaign; coalition partners include the Sierra Club and The Wilderness Society
  • Support of the California Desert Protection Act of 2010 through our partnership with The California Wilderness Coalition
  • VVF is part of the Bodie Hills Conservation Partnership, working to protect this beautiful land for future generations.
  • Education and advocacy for the proper placement of renewable technologies

Washington

Vet Voice Foundation has recently begun working on developing its base in Washington. The state is home to a large contingency of veterans and many choose to call these lands their home upon exiting the military. Campaigns we are currently pursuing in Washington include the following:

  • VVF is working in conjunction with coalition partners to sustain and protect the beautiful Alpine Lakes Wilderness area.
  • VVF is also active in promoting the use of renewable energy in the state and addressing placement issues regarding this technology.
  • With the states amazing waterways and national parks VVF is actively working to promote full funding of the Land Water Conservation Fund.

Arizona

There are amazing possibilities for the use of renewable energy in Arizona. Solar is a large component to this. VVF is actively working in the state to promote environmental and conservation issues. The state is also home to a large population of retired veterans. Campaigns we are currently pursuing in Arizona include:

  • VVF continues to be a champion for continued education and awareness of renewable technology.
  • With the Grand Canyon and other natural marvels VVF will strongly the executive powers associated with monument legislation, as this could be crucial in protecting the states treasures.

Nevada

Perched in the great basin and home to the Sierra Nevada's and the Mojave Desert, Nevada boasts some of the most stunning national parks in our nation. The states gaming industry draws millions of visitors each year. The state's national parks and wilderness areas also see a steady flow of these patrons. Veterans provide a lot of revenue to the state through both tourism and those that call this land their home.

  • VVF will be active in promoting the protection of the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains and will work with coalition partners to provide a non-traditional voice to this campaign.
  • VVF will continue to promote renewable energy and responsible placement of this technology.
  • With the states numerous national parks the Land Water Conservation Fund will be of great importance and VVF will continue a public dialogue with Nevada's legislators on this issue.

Colorado

Home of the Colorado River and the beautiful Rocky Mountains Colorado boasts glorious terrains. The state is also home to a thriving green economy, Ft. Carson and the United States Air Force Academy. As with many states that have a military presence it is also a draw for retiree's in the veterans community. With its radiant landscape of mesa, rivers and plains the state consists of a broad mix of lands that need to be protected.

  • VVF will continue to provide education and awareness with the states policy makers on the importance of renewable energy as well as project placement of this technology.
  • As with many states in the west, Colorado is home to numerous lakes and rivers, VVF will address the Land Water Conservation Fund and continue intensive advocacy with the states policy makers on this issue.

Utah

The beauty of Utah is threatened by the swell of the Wasatch Front. With one of the largest urbanized areas the United States, the region encompassing Salt Lake City, the territory is at risk. Challenges are many, especially with the libertarian attitude of policy makers. Veterans can make a difference especially on the local level by seeking solutions through an appeal to county governments, which will be the battleground in seeking common sense legislation that will protect these lands for future generations. Through the curse of our campaign VVF will conduct the following:

  • VVF will mobilize veterans on a local level for direct appeal to county governments on issues affecting wilderness legislation in southeastern Utah.
  • Meetings have been conducted on these issues with Congressman Jim Matheson and VVF will continue to keep an open dialogue with the states policymakers on these initiatives.
  • As with our other states in the west, LWCF will continue be a priority and VVF will work to advocate for full funding of this program.

New Mexico

New Mexico is a national treasure. The state is home to beautiful desert lands as well as scenic national parks and monuments such as White Sands and San Andreas.
The continued protection of these lands are complicated by the security issues posed by the state's border with Mexico. The voices of our veterans will resonate with the states congressional delegation and push the message that it is possible to both protect our lands and provide comprehensive border security. VVF recently met with two of the states three congressmen as well as the staff's of both Senators. The foundation will include the following in its upcoming campaign to protect New Mexico's wilderness lands:

  • Continue an open dialogue with the states policy makers.
  • Push and agenda that includes full funding of LWCF and the protection of monument legislation.
  • Approach the issue of border security from a military perspective while encouraging the expansion of wilderness areas.
